Benefits

A relaxing treatment, promoting the body to heal itself and assisting in rebuilding the physical and emotional self. Auricular Acupuncture has been shown to help with the following:

  • Reduction of craving

  • A 'clearer mind' which promotes receptive rational thinking and therefore enhances the benefits of counselling

  • Reduction of physical withdrawal symptoms

  • Improved sleep patterns

  • Improvement of health problems which often accompany long term alcohol and drug misuse

  • Marked relaxation and a feeling of well being

The treatment is even more effective when used in combination with other therapies and support approaches. Regular treatments can help to stabilise you physically and emotionally, increasing mental clarity and the ability to focus.

History & Background

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical procedure consisting of inserting fine, solid needles into specific points on the body in order to stimulate the body's natural tendency to resist or overcome ailments.

Fusion’s auricular acupuncture follows a protocol that was developed in the 1970’s at the Lincoln Recovery Centre, New York. It was originally used to help addicts with their recovery - dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, irritability and cravings. Since then the protocol has been found effective for a wide range of conditions.

Auricular Acupuncture is a simple, safe and effective approach to healthcare. The treatment involves placing up to five fine disposable acupuncture needles (pins) in specific energetic points in the outer ear. The outer ear acts like a switchboard – sending messages to the brain, which in turn stimulates the release of endorphins, lowers stress and induces relaxation.

The five ear points:

(1)  Sympathetic – calms the nervous system and helps with overall relaxation

(2)  Shen Men ‘Spirit Gate’ – reduces anxiety and nervousness

(3)  Kidney Point – for calming fears and healing internal organs

(4)  Liver Point – for detoxification, blood purification, and to quell aggression

(5)  Lung Point – promotes aeration and helps clients let go of grief

The pins are sterile, stainless steel and disposable.

What you can expect

Your appointment will be 45 to 60 min’s.

You will be asked some questions to establish that auricular acupuncture is best suited to your treatment requirements. The treatment protocol will be explained and your questions answered. You will be invited to sit or lay down so that you are comfortable and able to relax. The pins are applied as you take some slow, deep breathes then you are left to relax in private. During this time you may fall asleep, experience a meditative state or just feel calm and relaxed. The pins may be stimulated a couple of times during the appointment, before being removed.

Clients often report an improved sense of well-being, feeling energised, lighter and more relaxed after treatment.

If you have opted to have tacks or seeds to continue treatment at home, you will be given some techniques to follow to get maximum benefits.
